Worm when I pull out a weed?

I noticed many times when I pull out a weed, such as a plantain or dandelion, there's a lot of times an Earth worm attached feeding.

Yesterday I also pulled some weeds from a crack next to the house and there were many pill bugs feeding on the weed.

Everything has to eat!!

The important thing to remember is that earthworms eat dead and decaying roots and microorganisms in the soil. They don't eat live roots. So, worms are all good. The more worms you have the better.

Does that mean the weed is dying or decaying? Why are they always mixed in near the taproot area? Maybe that's how they get oxygen?

They are NOT "always mixed in near the taproot area". Generally they are everywhere in the upper soil layers. You just happen to see them because you are pulling weeds.
