water for new arborvitae?

I just planted a green giant arborvitae, its about 4' tall. Not sure how much I should water until its established.

Being in a remote location I am using a 5 gallon bucket to water. I was thinking of giving it a 5 gallon bucket of water every other day....

is that too much or too little?

We don't know your location so only you can tell when it needs watering. Your soil type makes a big difference as well. Obviously you won't need to water if your in part of the country flooding or getting a lot of rain. If you are having hot dry weather it could need watering every other day for the first few weeks or so. Or, it might do fine with watering once a week. Stick your finger in the ground at the base of the tree. If the top several inches of soil are dry I would water. If the ground feels muddy or mushy don't water. After a few weeks start spacing your waterings further apart.
