Oil Furnace won't prime

Ran out of oil. Tried to prime but nothing came out. Replaced Filter insert, cleaned screen. Lines are clear at least to the burner. Still nothing out of bleeder. Any ideas what could be wrong?

If you have a single line connection and can't get it to bleed I would start by checking all your connections and fittings to make sure they are tight. Any loose fittings or connections will break the vacuum and will stop the oil flow.

When you ran out of oil you may have clogged the line with sludge and it may have to be blown out.

If everything was working before I would start with that. If you were having troubles before you may want to check the coupling from the pump to the motor and make sure it is intact.

Hope this helps a little.

There's not too much that can go wrong if you're just trying to get oil to the pump.

Thanks for the insight. Turns out I didn't run out, but the knob on the fuel intake had stripped and spring shut the line. Strange coincidence that i was below 1/8th of a tank. Check the easy things first!

Glad it worked out. Could have been worse.
