Electricity from furnace to humidifier?

My son has a Bryant 925TA42060E17A furnace (high efficiency gas...) and a General 1137 humidifier. Trying to solve another electrical problem, I tested all the outlets including the one on the furnace. It was dead. I opened it up and found that it was fed by a wire coming from the furnace. Presumably power comes from the furnace to turn the humidifier on and off: I have never seen anything like this before, but am guessing. So I turned the furnace on, but the outlet remained dead.
I took a break to build him a raised bed garden, and when I came back the outlet had power when the furnace was on.

I have no experience with these things... is this normal behavior, or is something wrong? What might it be?

Thanks

Hi, if the receptacle is mounted directly to the furnace shut the power off to the furnace and remove the cover and see what’s going on in the box, possible broken wire ,check inside the furnace to see if there are any connections in there, post some pics.

The 1137 is a Legacy humidifier. It plugs into a switched 120v receptacle that is blower controlled so that the humidifier only runs when the blower is on. The humidifier has a built in circulation fan. That furnace probably has a 120v HUM connection on the control board that is feeding that receptacle.

Pete, OP stated there is no power to the outlet when the furnace is powered up.

That is correct. There will only be power there when the blower or heat is active.
