You have a thermocouple to monitor the pilot light. By the looks of your furnace I don't think I would put another dime into it. Looking at the location of the gas valve, it kind of looks like they installed the burner assembly backwards when converting it to horizontal left operation. At the very least, have it checked by a pro. It's in very sad shape.

Welcome to the forums.
We're going to need more information than that. On older standing pilot furnaces..... flame sensor rods aren't used like a modern furnace has. Usually if the pilot is ok...... the burner will operate. If that is a millivolt furnace..... there is a thermopile that generates the voltage for the gas valve. I see a transformer so it may be a 24v gas valve.
We need to see pictures of any type of control module and pilot assembly.
A model number would help too.
