Yes, directly off the tag on the machine.
I tried D&N directly and they said the SN didn't fit their format and must be wrong. Which it's what's directly on the tag. They said there must be a letter but it's obvious there isn't one on the tag.

0269 = manufactured - February 1969
That was a pretty common format on older furnaces.
Hmmmm...... could that be right.... 50 years old ?

I've been looking thru old service manuals. Day & Night, Carrier, Payne, Bryant are pretty much from the same group. I thought I found a Carrier equivalent but it shows intermittent ignition and a draft inducer.
Look closely on the control/ignition box or on the gas valve..... typically they are date coded.
Is it a standing pilot furnace ?
It would be a big help if you could take off the blower and burner service doors and post a few pictures...... How-to-insert-pictures
I have a number for Payne - Day/Night: 905 672-0860.
