Goodman HVAC fan won't run unless fan blades manually moved.

Replaced furnace/ac in 2014~ This year, furnace runs sometimes. Other times we have to trek outside, throw the breaker, take the side panel out and manually move the fan blades. When breaker is on again, works fine. Until it stops again. Armature flat spot? New fan motor? IDK!

EDIT: The fan in question is maybe an evacuator fan? 5" diameter or so, maybe smaller. The hubbs and I are agreeing to disagree (I am right, tho) Is there such a thing? Sits right up against the outside, next to the flames. It is def not big enough to be the blower motor fan.

Not the pro here but it sounds like a start capacitor is going/gone bad.

Welcome to the forums.

Usually you have to give the fan a spin on power up to get the fan started if the cap was bad.
It could still be bad. You may also have a furnace that uses an electronic motor. It will not have a capacitor.

Thanks Pete. Is capacitor replacement a job for a professional. Probably by virtue of my having to ask this question, I have my answer! LOL.

capacitor replacement is a very easy fix.

if the motor won't start with the power on until you give it a push, it's the cap and or motor.

if you're pushing it with the power off and restoring power it's not the cap unless it's still moving when you restore power.
