Can I even install a thermostat on this gas floor furnace

Trying to help my girlfriend out. She has a pretty old floor furnace that uses a "key" to turn it off and on manually. I'm trying to figure out if it is even possible to install a thermostat on a furnace like this and if so, what type should I be looking for?

Thank you for your help!

Before looking for a thermostat you need to find out if the furnace can be controlled by a thermostat. We can't help you with that since you didn't tell us what furnace she has. Does it any controls other than manually turning a knob on/off? If you look at the furnace itself is there a control panel or anything electric?

The fact you mention that it might not be able to be controlled by a thermostat pretty much tells me it can't be. No, I see nothing other than the 2 knobs. I just want sure if there might me something beneath the surface I wasn't seeing, but given the age of this thing, I doubt it.

Thank you.
