Cad cell

The cad cell in my oil burner works when I shine a flashlight on it, but when I reinstall it, the furnace locks out after the 30 seconds. Do they wear down, or are they an all or nothing item? I have 2 used ones. Both give the same result. Fine with a flashlight, but relay trips when installed.

Welcome to the forums.

You're going to need a meter to make tests. Nothing complicated.
You may have a burner or air mixture issue.
You need to test the cell in operation.

Required..... a meter with test clips and a clip to clip.
You can just wrap the cell wires around the test probes.
Use a piece of thin wire to jumper Fs to Fs.

Rather than type up a test... check out this video.... Testing cad cell system - video
