Framless shower door hinge cap?

The chrome cap that covers the hinge feel off.

Before I proceed here's what I planned on doing.

There appears to be an ~1/2" diameter spot of silicone on the back of the cap that was probably used in conjunction with the compression of the four edges that are folded over to have snapped the cap on/over hinge.

So if I scrap off the old silicone and squeeze off a new spot and take a rubber mallet and try and push the cap edges 'in' a bit so It'll grab and then place the cap over the hinge and knock it into place with the mallet?

I'd be concerned using a mallet or any device when glass is involved. Tempered glass doesn't take much to shatter into a thousand pieced. Remove the silicone and see if the cap will catch a bit on its own. It most likely is just a snap in place piece. Then use a small dab of adhesive bathroom caulk.

I'm sure the cap is a snap on. However, over the years it has just loosened up. I'll forget mallet. But I'm not at all sure what to use to squeeze the bent over sides 'in' a bit so the thing will actually snap on?

I stuck a three bottle soap dispenser to the flat wall in my shower with just adhesive caulk. So even if it is a loose fit, it should stay fine.

Since it's in the shower I'm thinking silicone and then there's regular silicone caulk and adhesive silicone caulk?
