Installing strong extension springs

The springs I have are pretty strong, and take a but of muscle to bend. I need to apply them to a eye bolt, but it's so tough to do so. I managed to muscle one on, but I have to do over 50 or so, so I need an easier way or I'll pass out. Any ideas?

May have better luck if you laid the eye bolt flat on a board and drive a cold chisle in to open it up some, connect the spring then close it back up with channel locks.

UPDATE: I got some springs on there but turns on they're a bit loose. I don't feel like I should have to re drill the holes, I would have to re drill a LOT of holes.

Eye Bolts

Put the eye bolt in a vise with the unattached side of the eye left outside the jaws of the vise. Use channel locks or vise grips to twist the unattached side of the eye sideways enough to create an opening. Attach the spring and reverse the process to close the eye. If you spread the eye apart as Joe said, it will not close all the way when you bend it closed.

What are you doing to make the springs loose? You would have to apply a stretching pressure to the spring beyond its elastic limit to make the spring coils separate permanently.
