Exterior door knob no longer locks or turns

Hello,

This door was slammed a bit too hard apparently and now the knob only turns in one direction and the push button lock will not engage. Is this repairable? Thanks for your response.Name: 2016-05-26 13.05.24.jpg

It's possible the knob just slipped out of position from slamming the door. Loosen the two mounting screws and try sliding the knob up a bit while turning it back and forth to see if you find a position where it operates smoothly. Then tighten the screws.

Thank you for the response. I did try that with no luck. I now have it disassembled. Is there anythin else I can try short of purchasing a new knob? Thanks

With the knob off, insert a screwdriver into the square or half round opening in the latch mechanism and turn it back and forth to see if the bolt operates smoothly. Try it with the door open and if it operates ok that way, try it with the door closed and see if the bolt slides smoothly into the strike. If the bolt and strike are misaligned so the bolt can't extend into the strike, it may prevent the button from engaging.

Disassemble it and determine if the knob turns when it is not on the door. Then remove the latch and see if the latch is the problem. If so you can buy just the replacement latch without having to buy the whole entry set.
