Framing nail size ?

Hi All, what is the consensus of opinion for nail length when nailing 2X4 studs with an air nailer?

Don't know about consensus but here's what I do. No red tags yet....

For toe nailing, 3-8d (2 1/2 inch) or 2- 16d (3 1/2 inch).

For through nailing (top plate to studs) 2-16d

For things like nailing headers together or corner studs, you can use 10d, but I usually just use 16d rather than keep changing nails.

I generally do use 8d for toenailing studs as they are less likely to split the stud. 2 on one side and one on the other.

Most framing requires a 3-1/2" (16D) nail.

Check local code. Most follow table r602.3(1) recommendations.

Yes, check local requirements. In NJ when I was building there years ago it was 5 visible nails (8d) in each end. They didn't accept end nails because they couldn't check them.
