Stupid question about wiring diagram

Replacing an old two relay control for baseboard heat with a new white rogers 24A06G-1

Two loads on two separate breakers.

The diagram indicates L1 and L2 for each load.

Does this mean both lines from a single breaker ?


or does the black line in from each breaker cross over and connect to the other relay in each set?
The old one seems to be cross wired.

​​​​​​The incoming feeds from one breaker set have the white line leads connected directly together, but the black line in connects to the black/red input to the control, and the red/black output connects to the black load on the other breaker circuit. Same for the unmarked pair.

They would connected to a double breaker and considered 1 circuit.

Sw 1 and Sw 2 are both normally open switches. You use the switch to open one leg of the 240v power as shown in the diagram. This diagram shows L1 to the switch and L2 directly to the heater. Heating load = heater.

Thank you for the responses.

There are two units each on a double pole breaker.

Do the references to L1 and L2 refer to the two lines from one breaker?

In the original configuration, they had crossed that outputs from the two relays to the other pair on the switched leg. Didn't this create a series connection passing through both loads?

Original wiring as found in photo.
Lines in from right tied directly to loads left on white legs,but you can see where the striped line in does not connect to the same load on the output from relay.


Power in on white leg went direct to heater for each circuit, power on black leg went to relays, and the outputs of the relays were connected to the black load side of the other circuit. It the same circuit as the white leg.

I have separated then into isolated circuits, and it seems to be working now. I have one unit working fine, and power to the second unit, but it seems to be dead, or the thermal cutout built in is bad.

I plan to bypass the thermal cutout just to confirm the fault, then replace the second unit.

Heating load 1 and heating load 2 are kept separated.

Heating load 1 side also sends power to the control transformer too.
Not terribly easy to see the splices but it looks like the wiring there is correct.
Left two cables are heating 1 and the right two cables are heating 2.

Final results.

New control working well, second heating unit is completely dead, will be replaced. reads open after failing other tests. Thank you again for your advice.
