Solar hookup?

Instead of installing a full grid-tied system, I was wondering if I could hook up a couple of solar panels to send power to my heat pump, since that's my biggest elec cost. I don't want to get into storing power etc, just use solar as my primary to the heat pump then have regular power to supplement it if needed. Maybe a silly idea but just asking.

The reason for grid tie is that it matches the inverter to the street voltage and line frequency.

There is really no way to connect the solar directly to your heat pump unless the solar was supplying all the power to your heat pump which isn't realistic. You'd need an extremely large solar bank and full sun. The power would have to be continuous..... it couldn't fade in and out with the sun.

I think you'd be more effective with a grid tie system.
