From what I have read, equal water/vinegar solution and a microfiber cloth will work well. You should not press on the screen, but wipe lightly and allow to dry. Do it with the monitor off so you can see your mess.

I am not advocating that what I do is the "correct" thing to do but, you asked:
so, personally, I use Windex & a paper towel. I clean our TV's & computer screens with that. Sometimes if eye glass cleaner is closer (more handy) I'll use that & a paper towel.
Or how you get the best results

You can buy LCD screen cleaning solvent. I use it with a microfiber cloth. Remember to spray the cloth, not the screen.

Jeez, I've cleaned CRT's, plasma's, LED, LCD all the same way for 20 yrs. Spray some windex type cleaner on the microfiber cloth and wipe away prints and dust. For big screens like my plasma TV, I just spray the display lightly across the top then use the cloth. No scratches no problems.
Here's what Samsung says "Spray a small amount of non-abrasive cleanser on a microfiber cloth."
Sharp apparently says a mild soap solution? If you say so but it sounds like a not so good idea to me. Seems like it would leave a film. We rinse our dishes and glasses when we use dish soap to clean them, how do you rinse a whole screen?
Lifewire says vinegar and water solution.
Hitachi says water only though a mild soap solution may be used. Well, isn't that what windex type stuff is?
Sony says alcohol and water (at least for some screens)
If different manufacturers recommend different methods and products, is there really a "right" answer? The things they agree on are...use a non-scratch cloth like microfiber, don't let any cleaner (whatever you use) get into the guts, and be as gentle as possible.
I think it mostly depends on what type of screen. Is there glass over it or is it a plastic film? Does it have an anti-glare coating? Is it a touch screen?

Vic,
You are correct t. It doesn't make a big difference. Even though Sharp said to use a mild soap, I have used a squirt a Windex or any glass cleaner available on all kinds of screens with no ill affect.

I've never been a fan of Windex, it leaves something behind I don't like. My cupboard has Stoner's Invisible Glass and Hope's Perfect Glass in it but Windex is only used for opaque surfaces like countertops in my house.
