Basement wall construction idea

Basement wall construction idea
OK, I finally decided to put foamboard up against the basement wall, then have the wall framed against it. Being the cheap person that I am, how about using a PT 2x4 for the floor plate, then using 2x3s 24" oc for the framing, with MMR sheetrock over it resting on the 2x4 base? I really don't need much structural for the basement wall... just seems overkill to put 2x4 16"oc for those walls.

Wow, can you even buy 2x3 lumber? In my area nobody stocks it. How much would you save by going to small studs on 24" centers? I would guess you'll save less than $50.

Many years ago, when cheap was my first, middle and last name I did similar,( I actually ripped 2 x 4's). Of course codes where not enforced or were not even written back then. But I advise go standard 16" centers with standard 2 x 4's. It makes things so much easier down the road. The PT wood is good, but are you going to put any kind of flooring in? Also electrical outlets will fit nicely with standard studs.
