dehumidifer basement vs.upstairs

Can I expect a dehumidifier placed in the basement to effect the humidity levels on the upper level?

In my case the unit is sized only for the basement space which is showing the highest RH. However,I am hoping that indirectly the unit will effect upstairs levels as well since the basement will now be dryer.

Depends on whether you have airflow between the two floors. In other words, can the dehumidified air in the basement get upstairs?

While I close the door to the basement at all times, I have vents and returns open on all floors so the furnace or AC will distribute that air for me.

I wouldn't count on getting much of a humidity advantage upstairs.
You will get some of the heat though.
