Unhappy Zenith dehumidifier compressor not on

Hi I got this Zenith ZD309Y9 for about 3 or 4 years. Just found out it stops working - the fan is still on, but the compressor won't kick off.

Actually I swear I heard the compressor got started once, but soon died out within 10 seconds.

I guess there can only be two reasons:

1 - some sensor got busted
2 - control board go haywire

This is the front view, I took off the cover. Is that blue thing the humidity censor that controls the compressor?

Back view. The black cylinder is the coolant reservoir I guess? The box on top-right corner must be the "control-board"? With all the heavy wiring I'm intimidated to try to take it off...

Wiring diagram

Could anybody tell me how much of an effort for a newbie to try to fix this thing? Just found out that the used one on craigsList (same model) is only $35 anyway...

Any advice/suggestion is appreciated!

That blue thing is probably the humidity sensor as well as a temperature sensor so the coil won't ice over. It reports to the control board. The compressor comes on depending on what the control board determines.

That black thing is the compressor.

My guess is the control board has a problem. In the diagram below I circled the relay that controls the compressor. It will probably be defective. Possibly even a poor solder problem. It would require opening that black box. A meter would make servicing possible.

Thanks PJMax! Looks like I'll have to try to open that box on top-right corner and figure out the wiring -- it's not working anyway, what could possibly go wrong...

Last time I played with a solder iron was in college... D'oh!

Is there any way to test the Humidity Sensor? If that's defective it won't start the compressor neither, right?
