Dehumidifier Icing

Soleus Air
Model GL-DEH-70F-2 (1.3)

Unit runs continuously. Bucket not filling. Bottom portion of filter is icing over. Humidity level set to 60%.

Is it dead, or does it need TLC?

 

What's the temperature around the unit. Icing is common if ambient air temp is below 55F or so.

Then check the air flow; make sure the coils aren't plugged with dust or dirt (and check filter if there is one). Make sure fan is blowing air well.

Check the humidistat either with a meter, by listening for a click when turning up and down with the unit off (if it's not digital), or by starting with the humidity setting high and turning it down until the compressor starts. If the compressor runs even at a very high setting the humidistat may be toast.

If all that checks out, it may be low on refrigerant, which for those units usually means replacement.

 

Shut unit down overnight to melt frost.

Examined coils and coils look to be clean.

Filter was fair to good; cleaned with soap and water.

Room temperature is 70 degrees F.

Started unit and turned fan from medium to high.

That 70° should go up a few degrees once the unit starts running.
High fan may help but it does sound like your unit is slowly loosing its charge.

 

New dehumidifier on the way. Changed brands to Frigidaire. Soleus only lasted 4 years. Also going from 70 pint to 50 pint. Thanks for the help.

 

icing over one part of the coil is a refrigeration problem.

having the whole coil ice up is a air flow or low return air temperature problem.

it's all junk now; they're made in china with thin copper and cheap rotary compressors.

soleus had a huge recall - catching on fire. the leak may have stopped your house from burning down.
