finding dehumidifier repair shop?
I have a broken "santa-fe" brand dehumidifier. Since it's heavy (80lbs?) I prefer to find a local repair shop. So far I found only one. They charge $90/hr and said the average cost for repairing a dehumidifier is $300 to $350.
I called other appliance repair place to get another estimate. But have not found any other who said they repair dehumidifier.
Shouldn't appliance repair shop who repair A/C and refrigerator be able to repair dehumidifier? They are similar in construction. But yet I called several shop who repair refrigerator and they all said they don't do dehumidifier. Why?
BTW I'm in the seattle area. If you happen to know someone who could help...

I'm certain many shops could, but it is a business decision as to how much training, parts, and service manuals are needed vs the number of repairs that would be needed to pay for all of that.
In my electronics repair shop we hated consumer electronics, too much variety, no parts supply, and every time we got talked into helping someone out we lost a ton of time and money.
So, yes many could fix your "santa-fe" but they can't afford to get set up to do so.
Contact the mfg and in a city that big you should be able to find an authorized service shop. Whether the price will be any better, probably not.

Most dehumidifiers aren't well built or built to last. The Sante Fe units are pretty good units and usually worth fixing. You won't find many companies fixing window A/C units either.
What's the problem with yours ?

It is the sante-fe "advanced" (version 1).
The problem is it does not produce water. I can still hear the compressor run and it draws 5.1A (supposed to draw > 6A).
After running 5 minutes, the output air is still room temp (should be warm).
I guess either the compressor is not compressing, or the refrigerant has leaked.
I bought it in 2010 but actual use is about 3 years. It still looks sparking new inside. I'll go get it fixed.

Check the front coil right behind the filter. If it's not cold.... the refrigerant has probably leaked out.
