Connect humidifier to nest 3rd Gen Thermo Stat.

Hello All,

I came across this forum after doing some google searching and it looks like PJmax is very knowledgeable and helpful on the subject of humidifiers and thought I would see about getting some help.

I have a new Nest 3rd Gen thermostat and I would like to have it control my humidifier. My current humidifier has a manual control and I believe it is a bypass system as duct work comes out of the air handler around the back and then into the humidifier which is connected to the return I believe.

I'm not sure if I just need to connect the red and white wires from the manual control to the nest or not.

Here's a few photos of how it is currently wired.

Any thoughts on how to wire this to the Nest thermostat would be helpful.

Thanks.

Welcome to the forums.

This is a basic setup. The two brown wires on the solenoid go to C on the furnace board and * on the nest. That's it. Absolutely nothing else in line.
There is no polarity as this is AC.

Thanks for the crazy fast reply. I don't have a C port on the air handler board.

Here's what I got.

On the nest, my blue wire is plugged into the C port. So Im guessing the C wire plugs into the B port on the air handler?

Thank you so much for your help.

One last question I think: should this setting on the Nest be set to Hum. only or Hum. + heat to the right of Activate.

I think it should be set to Hum. + heat, but just want to make sure.

Edit: it looks like humidifier only lets me control the humidifier independently by itself. Humidifier + Heat turns it off and on only when the heater is running.

That's how I set it up. I only want the humidifier to run when the heat is on.
