Will steam humidifier work efficiently with older HVAC?

I am interested in installing an AprilAire 800 steam humidifier in my house. I have a Lennox gas furnace and electric air-conditioning. The air handler is a “single speed” system. My question is: Would I be able to get a set up where the system (humidistat) can call for humidification and airflow even when the furnace/heating is not caled for? I have the following Lennox system: It is about 14 yrs old, and running smoothly.
We live in midwest.

AC:
Model: C33-50/60c-2F-1
SN: 6004C22114

FURNACE:
G51MP-48C-110-01
SN: 5904C06744

Any advice will be much appreciated!

That is not normally considered an older furnace as is modern design. It supports three speeds. One for heating, one for cooling, and one for fan (lowest speed). Have the humidistat trigger the fan and you should be fine. A steam humidifier puts out a lot of moisture so make sure to follow the instructions to place downstream of the furnace and a/c coils.

Some prefer a humidistat integrated with their thermostat. Otherwise a set-it-and-forget-it mounted on the ductwork is fine. Either way they should be able to use the outdoor temperature to adjust settings.

This is beyond my experience for anything specific. Generally recommend to not have a whole house humidifier and instead spend time sealing - have an energy audit done. Lots are fine but too many problems with humidifiers.

Typically the A after the model number means it comes with the automatic humidistat. I'm not sure how the 800 is currently supplied. If you want to purchase a controlling h'stat you'd buy the model 62.
