Gecko in Crawl Space

A Gecko has been living under our home in the crawl space all summer. I see it sometimes thru the outside crawlspace netting when it takes in the warm sun.

I've never seen it in the house. I even worked late one night at home and never saw it. Doesn't mean it's not there, but have not seen it or seen any of it's droppings.

I would like to get rid of it, but my wife says keep it down there. That it eats roaches and other bugs. Actually we have not seen the usual summertime roaches this year. Not sure if that's the Gecko's doing or not.

Need some advice. Will this gecko cause damage to the piping or anything under the home? What happens if I keep it there? I don't think it has a mate. Not sure how it got in also. I will examine to see what holes or crevices I need to patch up.

I’m not aware that they cause any damage. We have “skinks” here in PA; probably close to a gecko. Other than the “startle” factor, no trouble at all.

You might want to do a Google Search on "How are Geckos beneficial". Are you sure it's a gecko? They make a chirping sound.

I think it's a gecko. There are a bunch of lizards around the neighborhood. But this one is small to be Gecko size. Maybe a Chameleon but not 100 percent sure.

It's hanging out down there for 3 mo now. I don't know if it's stuck in there or comes out someway or not. I remember seeing it in spring around the area outside but I guess it managed a way to find itself in.

If it's eating insects down there I'm all for it. But I'm afraid if it will start a colony of lizards, then I'm not sure I'd be for it.

Leave it, all they do is run around and eat insects.
No way are they going to harm plumbing or wiring!

Lizards are cool! I seriously doubt that he/she is stuck in the crawlspace. As long as it isn't a Gila Monster I would leave it alone.

No reason to try to get rid of him unless he tries to sell you insurance.

It's so easy even a cave man can do it.

Update -

I took a picture and went to a reptile pet place here and they told me it's a NEWT. not a gecko.

They said it's probably not stuck in the crawl space but likes to go in there from time to time to escape the heat of the summer.

They're like mice where they can squeeze thru the smallest hole. But they should be no issue to wiring or pipes.
