Anybody know what these tiny little things are?

They are super tiny (tick size) but are not ticks. I thought I was once told that they are fungus gnats (or something like that), as they usually appeared on my front steps, and we have mulch along the front, and they like the mulch.

But now I'm seeing them all over my Azek deck (particularly along the railing). I've never seen them there before and just noticed them yesterday (hundreds if not more).

I also googled fungus gnat and I don't think it looks like what I have.

Thanks for any thoughts!

Springtails. Some years they are worse then others; run in cycles like other insects do. Outdoor pests in general, but when populations run high they will invade the indoors. Harmless, just a nuisance.

Thanks! That does appear to be exactly what they are.

yep.... I was just dealing with them....see my post here...
Seems this is their year in the tri-state.
I never seen them in the 3 yrs at my current place.... this year, seems to be all over.... I was able to eradicate a vast majority but now I see them coming back outside.... will spray again later this coming week, after the storms and showers pass.
