Pantry Moth

hello all! Any tips on how to quickly get rid of pantry moths? (I think they are indian meal moths). I cleaned out and threw out where i saw active moths inside. I put the rest of the food in airtight bins. What insecticide can i put right now? i have a spray called Nyguard Plus and i also have Phantom insecticide that i can prepare in a sprayer? Can i use one of those? What do you think of Ortho home defense from home depot? Is that too weak?

If a thorough inventory and inspection were done and all infested products removed and pantry well cleaned, typically insecticides aren't necessary. Are the shelves adjustable? If so, did you make an effort to vacuum/clean the track or shelf pin holes as that would be a "gestation" area. These areas sometimes get overlooked. Also, the gestation period is long, 3 to 9 months sometimes, so just because you see an adult now and then, don't freak out. Sometimes that how this works. Have the sightings diminshed since cleaning out? That would be a good sign. If activity continues like usual, then consider that there may be a source in another cabinet or even in an attached garage, especially if attached to the kitchen. I've found moths in old grass seed, old pet food that was hidden/lost, etc. The reason that you saw them in the first place is because they either overpopulated the container(s) they were in, or the food source ran out.

Phantom would not be my choice for interior of cabinets as it will leave a cloudy/milky residue. Nyguard IGR would be a good choice as Insect Growth Regulators work well on stored product pests and are very safe. You could mix that in a simple trigger bottle, much like the glass cleaner bottles, etc. Just sprray lightly where shelves meet pantry walls. The Home Defense spray is one that I'm not familiar with, as far as the active ingredient. I don't know if it's labeled for interior use. Keep us updated as to your progress.
