Ants in the vegetable garden

Recently we had to pull up some outdoor underground wire behind some tomato plants and now there's a zillion ants in that area.
Is there anything safe to use to get rid of them? I have some outdoor terro baits but not sure if it's safe to put them near vegetable plants.

Insect baits are safe to use around plants. Once an ant colony has been disrupted, they will leave that particular area usually. Feeding is the last thing on their mind. Let things settle down and see if they left before you spend time and money. Also, they may not ever be a problem to your house and plants, unless you've seen evidence otherwise.

Unless the ants are causing a problem, I would leave them alone. You probably hit a major nest.

Why do you feel you need to get rid of them if there not getting into the house?
The Terro will have no effect on your plants.
The active ingredient is Boric Acid.

OK, thanks everyone! I'll just leave them alone then. It's not near the house.
