Just noticed this large insect flying around our patio in Clearwater Florida. It appears to have about a 6-inch wingspan. Since only one has been seen this is not really a pest. However, several would be a pest.
Anyone know what this is or anything about them. Just curious at this point.
Are these tiny (almost microscopic) insects springtails? They are at most the size of a pin head, and often smaller. It's very hard to get a clear photo.
We have them all over the outside of our house, from our front steps to our deck to the furniture on our concrete patio, and on the house (wood shingles) itself. We also have them inside, mostly in bathrooms.
I understand they are attracted to moisture, but still, is it normal to have (tens of?) thousands of these things on our deck, patio furniture, etc...? I do put down insecticide on our yard, but not our mulch areas or under the deck.
Even if I spray insecticide on our front steps, patio/deck, all around the lower perimeter of the house/foundation... they come right back within days. I've even had an exterminator spray certain areas, including the patio, and it only helped for a matter of days.
I don't think we have any more moisture than any other house in the area (and we've asked some neighbors and they don't have these insects). We have no water issues, we get a TON of sun in the back and our deck (Azek) is very hot all day (though the ground underneath the deck (which is maybe 3' off the ground) could be moist/cool.
I just don't know what to do and I'm so fed up with stepping outside into massive amounts of these things (I can't even go barefoot on my deck, if I don't immediately grab packages that are left at our font door/on the driveway they become covered with these things...).

Su guys ever since 'First Strike' soft bait was recommended here some years ago, that was always my go-to product which always worked inside of 2 weeks, usually within one week. I used to get the product on eBay costing around $25 for a pack which would last for a long time.
However now I am seeing some mice droppings and looking on the net seeing only the larger boxes which I cannot afford right t now so I am seeking a similarly potent alternative which I can get in smaller quantities. I would need like 20 pcs. Any recommendations please? I am seeing brands like Victor, Double-tap and Alpha tech Flatline, any of those would be as good as First Strike please?Read More
