Spider?

I found this, dead, out back of my house. Looks like a spider but I don't think I ever saw one this big in this area. There's a quarter to the left and a dime to the right to show size.
I can take a better pic if necessary.

Those grass spiders get pretty big. I once took a pic of one next to my 25 ft tape measure... it was 75% as big!

First time I've seen one. I guess they usually hide in the grass.

Paraphrasing Crocodile Dundee: "THAT'S not a spider; now THIS is a spider":

I've seen them this big in my area. I've always called them wood spiders.

One built a nest inside and old SUV and when my friend stuck his hand in.. he got bitten.
Pretty viscous bite. He was slightly sick from it.

Oh great. They bite, too. At least I know to stay away from them if I see another one. Wonder if they're new to my area. I've been seeing quite a few bugs the last few years that I've never seen before.

I've seen them in northern NJ for many years.
Definitely give them a wide berth. No telling who's allergic.

Yeah. Wifey is Prez of local Kiwanis chapter. They do a haunted trail for Halloween that's running tonight. He's got red led eyes and I have an audio clip on a portable bluetooth speaker device that loops, the scene in Harry Potter where Aragog is talking about not denying his kids fresh meat when it wanders in. Made of wood frame covered with foam pipe insulation and covered with fake fur. Head area is styrofoam ball halves with plywood center. Should be pretty creepy.

You haven't seen a big spider until you see the banana spiders they have on Okinawa.

You need to tie some fishing line on that thing and give it a quick 2" tug when somebody gets up close to it..

The Florida variety of banana spiders are almost as large. I had one crawl up my leg while I was walking through some tall grass with my 3 y/o daughter. She had never heard her dad scream like a little girl before.

LOL.

Once when I was in St. Thomas, I was taking a shower, looked down, and there was a giant spider, the size of my hand sitting next to me. Screamed and shot out of there like a bat out of he**.
