Insulation by stove vent?

I've got a natural gas stove which vents upward to the ceiling. At the point of entering the ceiling, it elbows and converts from 6" diameter to 4 x 10 rectangular duct running horizontally for about six feet at which point it goes up for a short run, then eblows for a horizontal exit. I'm okay on the ductulator and all that. My question is about insulation.

The ceiling is made up of 2x8 joists. I have enough room to lay R-13 on top of the horizontal duct run, but I'm not sure if this is safe. Of course at times there will be hot stove air moving through the horizontal duct. Is this a fire hazard? Do they make special fire/heat resistant insulation for this purpose? I can just leave it without insulation, but above this location is an unheated attic area which would normally require insulation as you would with any exterior wall.

Thanks for the help!

You could use Roxul as an insulation. It has a high fire rating...... Roxul

Thanks for reply. It's a little spendy and 'm not sure I'd get it to seal as well as a traditional insulation, but that would probably work.

I'm not gonna lie. I'm hoping someone will tell me I'm just overthinking this and that there's not fire safety reason against just using R-13.

If you use regular insulation..... use metal foil faced...... instead of paper.

Maybe I'm thinking of the wrong thing, but the metal foil sided stuff I've seen is pretty thin. Could I put some kind of metal foil barrier down, then use R-13?

Okay, well, I'm not seeing foiled edged R-13 and it doesn't seem like there's a regulation or requirement to use anything other than standard R-13...
