Attic Insulation Help - Cape Cod Style Home 1959

Hello,

I am looking for a little help. In my attic, all along the very top, there are openings directly to the shingles. My question, can i spray foam these openings or was it designed this way for ventilation? Pictures attached.

Do you have a ridge vent? That may be why the insulation is spaced away from the ridge board. However, that insulation should be between the ceiling joists, not between the rafters if your attic is unfinished.

If you attic is set up with soffit and ridge ventilation that gap is the opening at the peak where hot air exits, you would not want to seal itl

Look at the peak from the outside does it have something like this?
