Fiberglass Insulation over electrical wiring
Hello,
I am replacing my fiberglass insulation at the rim joists and when I pulled the old insulation away there are electrical wires running along the rim joists. Obviously, they are sealed/covered with whatever they come with running from the electrical box but is it fine to put new fiberglass insulation back over these wires?
In other areas of the rim joists I am going to use rigid foam as well but since these wires are very close or even attached to the wood on the rim joists, I may be only able to put fiberglass insulation over them.
Just wanted to check if this is ok? I would assume so since I bought the house it previously had fiberglass insulation over them but just wanted to be sure. I don't really know of any other option to insulate that area.
Thanks!

Yes, it is safe to insulate over or around modern, insulated wiring like Romex/NM.
In older homes DO NOT insulate over or around knob and tube wiring. This is some of the oldest types of wiring and can have exposed, uninsulated conductors. This type of wiring relies on open air space around the wires for cooling. Insulating over them can cause a fire.
