Removal of Blue Lily Turf- advice on how to fill

Hello,

I recently removed a large chunk of blue lily turf in a natural area in my yard because it was taking over the grass. I may have went overboard... and now have a large space to fill.

I will be at least mulching this area. I am looking for ideas on low maintenance plants that may add some color and do not detract from the hydrangeas (?) behind it

I am not a huge fan of putting another ground cover down, because i want something more uniform.

what are your thoughts? Thanks for the help in advance.

I don't know what you are expecting if a ground cover is not uniform enough. Maybe we should start with your idea of a ground cover and what you want in that area.

Without knowing anything I'm thinking of a vinca. It's a ground cover and it spreads but it is not as invasive as many ivy's. When established it can form a dense uniform mat of vegetation that flowers in spring so you have a blanket of color before the hydrangeas flower.
