Is this a weed or grass ?

Hello All,

My yard is a disaster and I'm trying to make it right.

I have these types of tall grass throughout my yard and it doesn't appear to match the good grass:

I also have this type of grass that appeared after my "landscaper" put down straw last summer:

What type of granule based weed killer can I use to kill these if they are weed as I suspect?

Probably just a broad leaf weed.. You should get good results doing the 4 step process thats common.. Fertilizer with halts... weed and feed, summer guard.. and winter survival fert..

Whats your location though? We need to know the grass type...

Quackgrass . . funny name. I think that could be used to describe another type of grass that is legal in Colorado.

Anyway! Is there a granule based herbicide that I can use to kill the quackgrass?

Weeds vs Grass

The Scotts product pictured above is for broad leaf weeds.

Actually no.. The products with halts is what prevents germination in the spring.. But the only way I read to get rid of quack grass is products like round up...

Just checking back in to see if anyone knows of a product that I can use that won't kill my fescue but will eliminate the quackgrass.

Only thing you can do is put down another treatment of crabgrass preventer..

Seed the lawn every fall..

You need to put down the crabgrass preventer at the right time every year..

Once you get a healthy thick lawn it should chock out the weeds..

Its a long process...

If you want fast results youll have to kill the lawn and start over...

How bad could it be though?

It's not bad enough to kill the lawn.

My other thought was using a service like Scotts or Trulawn (i think thats their name) to do treatments. But if you think that they would just do the same thing your recommending, I'd rather do it myself.

We use RoundUp as a selective herbicide in my neighborhood by pouring it into a cup and using a brush to 'paint' the leaves or blades of the plant we want removed.

I have two different looking weeds. One appears to look like a straw:

Today Pic

This one appears to look like wheat with a bunch of seed looking things at the top of the grass

Size: 48.0 KB

Today Pic

Any help on identifying what these are would be great. I'd like to be able to find these listed on the back of a herbicide so I know it will kill these and at the same time not kill my fescue.
