How to cover a steep pathway

I have a fairly steep path that runs down a hillside in my back yard (my "backyard" is a deck attached to the house, then a hillside and then the actual yard-so essentially two levels connected by a hillside). It is currently just dirt but I want to cover it with something as non-slip as possible but also want to make sure what I am using to cover it will stay in place. I don't want any type of "stair" solution since I already have stairs down to the yard but I like having this path in addition for hauling items (rolling garden waste bins and the like) up and down to/from the yard. My thoughts were artificial turf or some type of rubber flooring (gym mat like) but my concern is how to install/keep in place. The path is roughly 3x40 feet.

Welcome to the forums! It certainly would help us to see what you see, so our advice would be more accurate. Can you post a few pictures of the landscape? http://www.doityourself.com/forum/el...your-post.html
