Driveway Spacer Joints

The wooden spacers rotted away years ago. I would love to replace them with something more aesthetic. Pebbles then sand then soil then ??? What type of plants could i use. I rarely drive on / in my driveway. Therefore, the plants (Y, they would need to be tougher than flowers) wouldnt be smushed on a daily, even weekly basis. I know this is a weird project idea, but the only thing out there now are weeds! Thank you for your hones opinions.

I've seen several driveways where grass was gown intentionally in the joints. Generally I've seen it done with wider strips so it looks more intentional. If you do want plants you'll want as much soil depth as possible so I'd fill the slots completely with soil. You did not fill out your location so we can't comment whether or not the grass or plants will survive. In the south there are few plants that can survive the dryness and heat during the summer but in the north plants in the driveway can look quite nice.
