enamel over thompsons water

Question enamel over thompsons water

is it a good idea to put a coat of clear enamal over wood with thompsons water protection ?

Welcome to the forums! Curious as to why you would want to put a coating over a sealant. I think the Thompson's will be too oily to accept the enamel. Marksr, our paint guru will be along shortly, so hang in there for his take on this.

It's a bad idea to apply any coating over top of TWS! The same properties that make it repel water also prevent any coating from getting a good bond to the TWS. You'd have to wait until the water seal has pretty much weathered away.

What did you apply the TWS to? While it does a good job of sealing most substrates it often has a very short life span, typically 6-12 months. There are better products to get the look you want.
