Prune or Kill? Tree Question

Hey,

I've got a tree that started loosing its leaves over the past 1-2 years. I asked for a quote to have someone prune is and based off of one picture he sent me he said it should be cut down. I'm here from for a second opinion. Three pictures attached. What do you think?Name: IMG_2508.jpg

It looks like some kind of Maple . . . . is it losing its leaves or is some kind of worm/beetle larva eating the leaves ?

I have to agree, it definitely has a problem. If you can identify what is killing it and treat it you might be able to salvage some of what is left.

My eyes aren't good enough to make out the leaves so what kind of tree is it?

In my area we have a few bugs attacking specific types of tree. Your state forestry department might be able to help.

I also notice that the tree is somewhat close to the foundation and some roots could get into the perimeter drainage, may already be there.

Search "Asian longhorned beetle" you might be able to spot their holes if it is them.

I agree with cutting it down it's looking pretty rough, by the time they trimmed it there would be little left.
Surprised if it has not already caused issues in the sidewalk, driveway and foundation.

I'm not quite sure on the tree. The leaf looks like a dogwood. But in my two minutes of research all the dogwoods flowered, this doesn't. Pic attached.

Luckily the roots never affected the foundation or surrounding concrete.

I'm certainly not an expert but that leaf looks similar to an ash tree and there is an emerald ash borer which has been attacking then.

Just a wild opinion.

Do communicate with your state forestry department as they may wish to confirm as they are probably tracking the spread of those bugs.
