starting to get weeds in otherwise great lawn

I'm starting to get some weeds in my lawn. we moved here in October and the prior owner had lawn service that put down some kind of weed preventive solutions. we did not renew with them. so I'm hoping I can find out what to buy at the store so I can combat the weeds. any help would be appreciated.

You can start by telling us where you are located and what weeds you are getting. Other than that all home centers carry a selection of lawn herbicides.

No interest in re-hiring the lawn service?

I find using one can be a great source of information which can then lead to you being more competent maintaining the lawn yourself after a short while.

A good weed and feed applied a couple of times a year is a great start. I have personally found that material from local mill/grain/feed supply carry local manufactured products that are better, and cheaper.

I will never use Scotts, it simply never produced the results that this material does for me.

Take a sample to a small garden center. Or...hire a gardener for a one time visit and pick his/her brains.
