Can I prevent weeds from neighbors?

Hi! I am a new member here, so I apologize if this question has been asked before. I live in a restricted deed community in Clearwater, Florida, and all of the communities St. Augustine grass is cut by the same company on the same day. Needless to say, no matter what I put on my lawn, it seems to be a losing battle. I am currently battling torpedo grass which is a battle I am losing. All of the St. Augustine I planted last year is dead as it was overtaken by torpedo grass. Other than cutting the lawn myself, which I cannot physically do, is there anything else I can do? Thank you in advance for any suggestions!

Everyone struggles to keep their lawn weed free. It's a continuous battle. Since you mention that you are not physically able to mow your lawn I also assume you are not able to manually pull the offending weeds. There are no herbicides I know of that will control torpedo grass in St. Augustine. You can contact local lawn care companies and see if they know of a way but I'm sure it will be expensive.

I'm not familiar with the grasses in FL but here in MI we treat annual crab grass with pre-emergence but that simply doesn't solve the battle.

All through the growing season I simply take a spray bottle of round up and surgically hit the offending grass which dies and allows the "good" grass to fill in the dead spot. It's a slow process but year after year the battle is slowly being won!

When you say “cutting the lawn” are you talking about mowing, or sod removal?
