Champion/Superior sprinkler valve question

Hi,

I have a really old champion sprinkler valve that is leaking from the manual screw. Can anyone confirm if I can just replace the butterfly valve with the brass screw that is available on the newer valves? I've attached a picture of the valve.

I also need to rebuild the valve and it's really difficult to remove. Should I just spray liquid wrench on it every few hours or should I heat up the area with a blowtorch?

thanks!

Have not seen a valve like yours in years but my mother had them and I remember the screws came out fairly easy. I would spray them with PB Blaster and wait a day before removing. New kit in valve should stop leak.

I removed the manual screw. It's a 10mm fine thread bolt and I was not able to find a replacement brass screw. Ended up replacing the valve with a retrofit home depot part. It was not fun trying to loosen a 30+ year old part...
