Noisy range hood fan

Hi, I have a Broan range hood with a 2 speed fan that exhausts outside. The hood looks OK, the light works OK, but the fan is LOUD (both speeds). I've tried to research the fan sound levels, but unlike bath exhaust fans, there don't seem to be sound level ratings available. Can anyone recommend a replacement fan for my hood, or a replacement hood that is fairly quiet? Thanks, Steve

I had the same situation with my Broan 2 speed hood. I replaced it with a Broan QT20000 variable speed hood, and I couldn't be happier. On lowest speeds, you can barely hear it, and at full speed, its not annoying at all. It has two level lighting too, which is really nice at night. Another nice thing is that ithe was an exact match for the old Broan footprint. I didn't need to move the electrical or duct.

There should be two dampers..... one at the top of the hood and another one outside on the cap. If either of those gets stuck the fan will roar too.

And as Andrew mentioned.... some are just loud by design.
