Replace fan with light fixture
I am replacing a fan with a new light fixture. The junction box has a black, red, and white wire. The new light fixture only has two wires. I assume one goes to the black and one to the white. What do I do with the red wire?

Welcome to the forums.
The white wire is neutral and goes to the light.
You may need to use either red or black and wire nut the unused one off.
You may find the black wire always live and the red wire switched or reverse of that.

Sounds like you have a properly wired switch loop with the power coming into the light not to the switch.

Switches
Did the fan have an attached light fixture? Did the fan have separate wall switches for the fan and light?

I don't see a switch loop here - this is normal wiring around here for a room where a fan/light combo is anticipated.

Or did it have separate pull-cords for each one? I've owned a number of fans that let you turn the light off separately from the fan itself, and a lot of them might work like that depending on how they're wired.
