Finding a dimmer for my entertainment center

Hi everybody!

I have a entertainment center that has been in my family for years and just recently got handed down to me. My father removed the original dimmer / switch and misplaced it when it stopped working. I'm looking to find a replacement however there is no make on the center and I cannot find anything.

The dimmer from what I recall was a small box with a knob that stuck through the 1/2" hole (pictured). The knob was over a 1/2" long to stick through the thickness of the wood. The dimmer itself plugged into the wall outlet and had 4 outlets where the independent can lights plug into. Does anyone know where I can find something like this? Please help! Thank you

 

If you have access to that space above, I suggest you mount a standard rotary dimmer switch, like this one: https://www.amazon.com/Leviton-6602-...y+light+dimmer

in a box and secure the box so the dimmer shaft pokes through the hole. You may have to enlarge the hole a bit so the shaft of the knob can stick through the wood in order to fully seat on the shaft. Then wire the dimmer to another box with as many outlets as you need, or direct wire the can lights to the dimmer.

You could also cut a rectangular hole and mount a box as if it were sheetrock....but the first method would be less obtrusive.

 

What type of lights, (Halogen?) what wattage, and what voltage are the lights?

 

Forgive me for not being too knowledgeable with electrical, but the cans accept any normal screw-in light and looks as though they are 40w. I also forgot to mention the original knob would turn, then click to initially turn on and then you could dim from there. I appreciate the help!

 

"Normal" screw in light bulbs can also be low voltage. Does it have a standard plug or is it a "wall wart" transformer? Can you post a picture of inside the wiring compartment where the switch would be installed?

 

OK, I just found what pretty much I am looking for but I still would like to know where u could find one. Let me know if there is any specific name or somewhere I can buy online.

I can't find a rotary dimmer on the site, but you might see a dimmer you like better.
