How do you take off fan canopy?

Hi

I am in middle of replacing a Hampton bay fan with light with recessed lights.

I could not get this thing off from ceiling and I don't want to damage it as I want to install it somewhere else. There is this plastic round thing covering the metal cup but this round plastic piece can be turned an inch or so. I tried scraping and turning really hard, it wouldn't move.

Edit: trying to see how to post picture from a phone. ...

Edit: I figured it out. Thanks

I wasn't sure if you were referring to picture posting or if you got the canopy down.

The canopy turns like in the picture below and then slides down.

Just a sec...it looks like takkie has the type with a plastic ring that covers the actual canopy mounting screws. That ring actually has to turn CW (not CCW as diagrammed) and will pull down to uncover the screws. Here's a PDF of a manual for a similar fan...DELETED
You shouldn't have to log in since it was linked from here...DELETED

The first URL seemed to want to add a tab to Chrome, my browser. I'd be very careful.

Hmmm, so it did. Lemme see if it's something I did. They look like harmless ads for stuff. I've got realtime scanning on, so prob nothing bad. And mine also comes up with a new blank tab for any PDF file. Lemme delete those links and find something direct.

The picture I used was from the Home Depot - Hampton Bay help area and is backwards.

Yes. That is correct. You turn hat direction and pull down. On the canopy, it is a L shape. So you turn it an inch to that direction till you can't go or more. Then just pull down, it comes right off.

Thanks all.

I said I figured it out meaning I figured out how to get the canopy down.
