Question Need help removing a socket from a gooseneck floor lamp

I have a 40's gooseneck floor lamp and the socket has been sputtering. the lamp has a Bakelite socket, I was able to get off the top half of the socket and I did expose the inside lamp socket which I can and will replace, but the problem is that the lamp housing is loose and I want to tighten it. I can't remove the bottom half of the Bakelite socket though and I don't want to put it back together without tightening every thing up. If anyone can help, it would be gratefully appreciated.

thank you :c)

The base of the socket should simply unscrew from the nipple, and then there should be a brass nut behind it.

Thank you, I was having trouble getting in there to get a grip. Must need a specialized tool like smaller fingers and a stronger grip!

See those two little "fingers" on either side of the nipple? The "special tool" is called a spanner, it has little grooves that slide onto those fingers so you can tighten it... But you already have a perfectly acceptable substitute in your toolbox.. Stick a pair of needle nose pliers in there, force open the jaws to 'straddle' both fingers on opposite sides, and give it a left twist.
