Light bulb bases separating from bulb

A 2 minute bulb replacement last month turned into a 2 hour repair when 4 out of 6 bulbs in two ceiling fixtures broke off and the metal base was stuck in the socket.

Yesterday, a bathroom vanity bulb went out, same thing, bulb came off the metal base.

I do not recall ever having this happen but to have 5 bulbs break in such a short time is suspect.

Cheap bulbs, weird electricity spikes, just bad luck?

Definitely bad bulbs. (using the ever popular disappearing glue)

I mentioned this once before. When the glass separates from the metal base the safe and easy way to remove the base is using a raw potato. Be sure the power is off or at least the switch is in the off position.

I have never had luck with a potato. I end up with a shredded potato mess and still have a stuck bulb. Usually I end up using a pair of needle nose pliers and can get the bulb base out in a minute or two.

I recall introducing a pair of external snap ring pliers to one particularly troublesome bulb base at some time, must have fabricated some custom ends, and I think it worked, but can't remember enough about it to say if it would be worth trying again or not. To have that many at one time though, sounds like the box they came in should not have passed final inspection.
