how to remove old light fixture on porch

I would like to replace an old light fixture. If I remove the cover to expose the base, I don't see how it is attached to the ceiling. Can someone shed some light (no pun intended) on this?Name: DSCF0378.jpg

Remove the insulation & you'll see what to do.

So, when it was originally installed, was the insulation not bonded to the metal base?

Usually the insulation is glued in place but even if not several decades of heat from the bulb and bug bits can stick it in place. You'll probably find a couple screws underneath.

Just looks like someone put tin foil up there. It does not look like factory insulation coverage. Should find two screws underneath the foil.

That insulation and foil was supposed to be behind the fixture... between the base and the wood. Someone just glued it to the front.
