Question How hard to make: Nanoleaf Aurora

I would really like to get the aurora nanoleaf,

But after looking at it and the cost (2-3 hundred) I was wondering if it would be possible to make some panels like this myself.

LED lights are pretty cheap on amazon, and you can even get ones that change with music to match the 'aurora rhythm' effect, and I could put those in self made panels somehow.

Basically any suggestions on this idea would be helpful.

It's not just color changing LED's. It's many LED's like pixels. A pixel is like a light bulb with red green and blue in it. A running program tells which pixel to light up with what color. There may be 100's of pixels in those panels.

A good start would be to search for pixel projects to get a feel for what they are.
