dummy bulb

I have a few lights on same switch I don't want all illuminated. Is it best to just not install a bulb in those fixture or perhaps leave a dummy dead bulb installed instead?

Leave the socket without a bulb or leave a burnt out bulb in the socket. Either or. You could bypass those sockets by taking them out of the circuit.

IMO it's better leave a dead bulb in the unwanted socket - less chance of anything getting accidentally poked into or bugs getting in it.

Many years ago I saw some plastic plugs that could be screwed into a socket, I googled but they didnt come up.

I do have some screw in adapters that make them an outlet, same principal!

I'd considered a live bulb with a small piece of electrical tape or piece of hard plastic over the hot nub of the bulb.

CFL failure?

I had a CFL flicker and make a crackle noise upon turning it on. Tried it again the next day and it did the same thing. However, once I toggled the switch again it became stable. I immediately tried it in a different fixture and it appeared OK. I am 99.9S% sure the wiring at the switches and light are correct and tight. The bulb itself is old, discolored base and the spiral glass is loose a bit from the base. The reason I am asking is I never seen a bulb do this. Do they usually fail completely or is it possible for a failing bulb to become intermittent like this?
